The Coues deer is a subspecies of the white-tailed deer. Coues deer are most common in Arizona's southeastern mountains, but can be found on the edge of the Mogollon Rim and into the White Mountains. They are most abundant in areas of predictable summer precipitation.
We have found that these deer prefer to range from 3000 to 7000 feet, they typically can be found living on mountains or hills, but we are beginning to see good numbers of the deer on the desert floor. It is not uncommon to see Coues and mule deer roaming in the same area. Our most productive methods of hunting these deer is by glassing and stalking with an emphasis on glassing; these deer are masters at blending in with their surroundings, so it is important to be very focused when looking for these desert whitetail.I believe the Coues deer is one of the toughest big game animals to hunt, at the conclusion of your hunt I think you will agree this is the ultimate deer challenge.
Please note this deer’s habitat is rugged, so we recommend that all hunters be in good physical conditionSEASONS: Rifle: October 25 - 28, November 8-17 and December 13-31. Muzzleloader: December 13-31. Archery: August 23 - September 15 and December 13 - January 31.
